Connect Allflex RS420 to iPhone/iPad with SerialMagic Keys iOS
Use your Allflex livestock RFID reader on your iPhone and iPad. Connect the Allflex RS420 Stick Reader to iPhone or iPad and use SerialMagic Keys iOS to post readings. Post livestock RFID tag data scans directly into any iOS app or browser with no typing, and 100% accuracy.
Pair RS420 to iPhone/iPad via Bluetooth | iOS Livestock Reader

Use your iOS Livestock Reader to post scans to any iOS app or webpage.
First, open iOS Bluetooth Settings app, and insure Bluetooth is On.
Next, on the RS420 livestock reader, press the bottom (green) button to power on the unit.
Third, press-and-hold the RS420 top button (~3 seconds) to enter Menu mode.
Use bottom button to scroll the menu, and use top button to select the current menu selection.
Next, go to: Bluetooth Settings → iPhone Discoverable (use this same option for iPad) the RS420 shows “Pairing finished?”.
Now go back to iPhone, tap the RS420 device (example: RS420_01294) and enter PIN: 1234 and tap Pair. Note: the default PIN is 1234, your reader may have a different PIN.
Result:
- iPhone shows Connected
- RS420 beeps
- Press top button on RS420 to confirm
SerialMagic Keys iOS Connects iPhone-iPad | Post
First, open SerialMagic Keys iOS, then tap Devices to open Serial Device Manager (SDM).

Next find the RS420 under “Found Devices”, tap on the device and confirm it appears under Connected Devices.

Finally important:
Know that Bluetooth connection in iOS Settings App alone is not enough for your iOS Livestock Reader (or other device). You connect the device with SerialMagic Keys app, after it’s connected to iOS then you post iOS Livestock Readings as keystrokes.
Set Data Encoding | Post Degree Symbol Properly on iOS

You post a value from your Allflex reader on iOS with a degree symbol in the data, but you see the degree symbol is posted incorrectly.
Solve the degree symbol format issue setting the “Data Encoding” on SerialMagic Keys iOS.
First, under “Connected Devices”, tap the gear icon next to the connected Allflex Bluetooth device.
Next tap “Data Encoding”, finally, tap “Windows-1251”.
Finally, scan readings from your iOS Livestock Reader to any iOS App or browser pagge – Safari, forms, spreadsheets, etc. – as keystrokes.
First, open any app or browser (Safari, forms, spreadsheets, etc.), tap into a text field.
Next, scan a livestock tag with your iOS Livestock Reader , in this example Allflex RS420.
Result:
- Data appears instantly
- No typing required
- No transcription errors
“Data Encoding” set to “Windows-1251″ensures correct display of the degree symbol when Bluetooth data is posted as keystrokes to iOS cursor location on iOS apps and browser posting.
