Managed User notes for Apple OS X 10.2+

To use SerialMagic from a Managed User account on OS X 10.2+, do the following:

1) Mount a licensed copy of the SerialMagic DMG file.

2) Use Finder to go to Applications folder then from the Finder menu select

File >> New Folder

and name the new folder "SerialMagic SSE", "SerialMagic LC", or "SerialMagic Pro" as appropriate.

3) Select the new SerialMagic folder then from the Finder menu choose

File >> Info

and when the info dialog displays, click the "Details" 'expander' and set the "Others" field to allow "Read & Write" (or configure according to the desired security policy ... the point is the "Managed User Account" must have permission to write this folder since this is where SerialMagic saves its settings)

4) Copy the SerialMagic app (e.g. "SerialMagic SSE 1.2.1", or "SerialMagic Pro 2.2" ) from the DMG mount to the newly created SerialMagic folder located in the Applications folder.

5) Now go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> and select the Managed User Account. (Note: if using OS X Fast User Switching feature the Managed User must be logged out before it can be selected)

6) In the"This user can only use these applications:" area, and located in the "Applications" group, click the "Allow" checkbox next to the SerialMagic app.

The Managed User Account should now be able to run the SerialMagic application.
